Creating Art – It all began with glue and Glitter

Creativity has always been apart of my life and I remember loving art time in school as early as Kindergarten.  I was a strong willed child and my Kindergarten Teacher Mrs. Brown had the patience of a saint.  I remember we were going to make Mother’s Day cards in class with glue and glitter and Mrs. Brown droned on and on about how to put the glue on the construction paper and how to put the glitter on the glue.  In my excitement to get started, because naturally I didn’t need her to tell me how to squirt glue on my card and dump some glitter on it, I ignored her instructions and just started squirting that glue.

She was not pleased to say the least.  She spied me right away, stopped what she was saying, and proceeded to wipe my glue I had so masterfully squirted, off my construction paper.  Mrs. Brown gave me a stern look and said, “You have to wait till I’m done giving the instructions.”  I looked at her and thought to myself, challenge accepted.  She began talking again and I swear she started at the very beginning again with the glue, the glitter, and I was not having any of it.

She turned her back on me and before she could say another word I had that glue back on my construction paper and was reaching for the glitter.  The other kids at my table looked at me like I was insane but I didn’t care because when creative genius strikes you have to jump on it like there’s no tomorrow!

Needless to say, she caught me again and wiped off the glue again.  I decided that if I was ever going to have the enjoyment of sprinkling glitter on my glue I better just let her finish.  And so I did.

Art takes a different turn

Growing up I discovered that I was really good at making art and went to college to get my Graphic Arts degree but lost my way when art became a chore and a grade.  I found other ways to be creative through cross-stitch, crocheting, and then a marvelous thing happened in the late 80’s, the computer was created!  So now instead of drawing and painting with expensive mediums, I could create to my hearts content.

So now, I create art on the computer and have added photography to my repertoire.

I hope you enjoy my portfolios.
