Ghost Stories

Why We Love the Dead

Why I love ghost hunting

It’s that time of year when we break out our scary outfits and talk to the dead.  We travel to cemeteries in the dead of night or go on historic home tours.  We are enamored with the dead and want to know how they really died.  Sometimes the stories we read in old dusty books, are not the actual facts.  We want to know that there is life after life, a rebirth to a new existence after this one.

Ghost stories around a campfire on a cold night are a long-time tradition amongst teenagers and adults alike.  I know growing up there were always spooky stories at sleepovers with all the lights out huddled under a blanket and one flashlight shining under the storyteller’s chin.  We love the adrenaline rush of being startled by a sudden grab of our shoulders from behind us.

Don’t mess with what you don’t understand

But ghost hunting is no laughing matter.  Like most dangerous things we don’t understand, we push ahead without the right protection or safety precautions.  You need to know the risk before you go rushing in and conjuring spirit or trying to talk to the dead.  There are real-life consequences to playing with the non-physical realm of spirit.

I don’t recommend playing with ghost hunting instruments without instruction from a professional.  You can unwittingly open a doorway to another dimension or realm that you will not be able to close or deal with.  Don’t get me wrong, ghost hunting can be exciting and mind-blowing, but please do it responsibly with a group who are experienced.

If you’re interested in getting involved in ghost hunting, check out a local ghost hunting group where you live.  I am apart of the Colorado Alliance of Paranormal Investigator and Mediums.  Many of these groups do public investigations that will give you a taste and show you the right way to conduct an investigation.  This is how I began my ghost hunting journey when I lived in Massachusetts.

Public investigations – a great way to get your feet wet

We attended a public investigation of the SK Haunted Victorian Mansion located at 4 W Broadway in Gardner, MA.  The group was the New England Ghost Project with their leader Ronald Kolek.

We were instructed on how to do a proper protection prayer before getting started.  They also instructed us on what we should not do during the investigation.  To make sure we stayed out of harm’s way, a member of their group was assigned to each smaller group as we rotated to different parts of the house.  Now, this is a bonafide haunted house that has been investigated by the Ghost Adventurers;  The Ghost Hunters (TAPS); and My Ghost Story.

It is exciting and scary all at the same time to do one of these types of investigations and we did collect some paranormal evidence.  While in the red room I was able to record an E.V.P. (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) of a ghost.  I asked, “Is this your room?” and you hear on the recording a breathy female voice say, “yes.”  We also did some investigating in the attic and heard a creepy male voice on our recording.

At any rate, if you want to go ghost hunting, use the proper equipment and safety precautions.  And always, go with a professional until you understand what you are dealing with.

Be careful out there!
